Frequently asked questions about your-email.eu
Where the service runs, what leaves your infrastructure, what the API and the SMTP relay accept and how to get an organisation. Anything not answered here: hello@your-email.eu.
Where is your-email.eu hosted and where is my data stored?
The console at app.your-email.eu, its database and every shared node run in data centres inside the European Union; no data is processed outside the EU. With your own node, the sending node and the mail it delivers stay on your infrastructure, wherever you place it.
Does message content ever leave my infrastructure in own-node mode?
Mail submitted to your node over SMTP never leaves it: the node queues, signs and delivers the message from your IPs and ships only delivery events (timestamps, queue id, addresses, the remote server’s response) to the console. Messages submitted through the REST API are different: the console stores the message, including its body, to hand it to your node and retry if the node is down. The GDPR compliance page lists what is kept and for how long.
What happens if my own node is down?
In self-hosted mode a message is retried against your other healthy nodes, round-robin; if none is healthy it keeps retrying and eventually fails. It never leaves through the shared fleet. In shared mode your own healthy nodes are tried first and the shared fleet is the fallback. A node counts as healthy if it has reported in within the last 10 minutes.
Which DNS records are required before I can send?
Two: an ownership TXT record at the domain with the value the console shows you, and the DKIM public key at the selector the console generates. The console checks both when you ask it to verify, and a domain can send only once both pass. SPF and DMARC records are not checked by the console; publish them anyway, as receiving servers expect them.
Does the API support attachments?
Not yet. A message has a text and/or HTML body, up to 50 recipients and up to 25 custom headers.
Is there an SMTP relay or only a REST API?
Both. Sender credentials issued in the console are provisioned to your node’s SASL table; submit on port 587 with STARTTLS using the sender address as the username. The REST API is POST /api/v1/messages with a bearer API key. Both paths end up in the same Messages log.
How are API keys and SMTP credentials stored?
They are shown once, at creation, and stored only as hashes; nobody, including us, can read them back. API keys carry only the abilities you give them and can be pinned to one sender. Keys and credentials can be rotated or revoked at any time in the console.
Is this suitable for marketing newsletters?
No. your-email.eu is for transactional and operational email to recipients who expect it. On shared nodes the sending reputation is shared between organisations, so bulk marketing traffic is not accepted.
How do I get access?
Signup is by invitation. Send your work email and monthly volume through the form on this site, or email hello@your-email.eu; we set up the organisation and send an invitation, usually within one working day. Pricing is agreed during onboarding.
Can I mix own and shared nodes?
Yes. Node mode is set per organisation. In shared mode your own healthy nodes are always tried first and the shared fleet is only a fallback. In self-hosted mode the shared fleet is never used, even if all your nodes are down.
Do I need to change my application code to switch modes?
No. Domains, senders and API keys are the same in both modes, and the API request is identical. Where mail leaves from is an organisation setting.
Ready to send from where you decide?
Tell us about your domains and monthly volume. We set up your organisation and send an invitation, usually within one working day.
